CCDRN Begins May Distribution of WFP’s Blanket Supplementary Feeding Programme in Gujba, Yobe State

May 2018 – Centre for Community Development and Research Network, CCDRN has commenced the May distribution of Blanket Supplementary Feeding Program (BSFP) to vulnerable population in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe state, on Behalf of the United Nations World Food Program WFP.
The project, being a component of WFP’s emergency response in Northeast Nigeria, emphasizes a preventative nutrition approach that delivers both nutrition specific and nutrition sensitive interventions to prevent and manage malnutrition amongst the most vulnerable populations.
The Blanket supplementary program focuses mainly on children under five years and women of reproductive age (15 to 49 years)
It has helped in treating moderate acute malnutrition through targeted supplementary feeding to children, pregnant and lactating women. The program has also been instrumental in preventing stunting through complementary feeding to children aged 6–23 months.
In January 2018, United Nation World Food Program (WFP) contracted the service of Center for Community Development and Research Network (CCDRN) as a cooperating partner for Blanket Supplementary Feeding Program distribution to communities in six wards of Gujba LGA.
A lot of milestones have been recorded since Centre for Community Development and Research Network; CCDRN took over the distribution process of the Blanket Supplementary Feeding Program in January of 2018.
“To WFP I forever remain grateful, and to you distributing these items, I am happy for your effort in distributing it to us”. Aisha Mohammed a beneficiary from Gujba told our field staffs.

CCDRN Nutrition team has been coordinating the distribution process in Gujba since January with a core mandate to ensure a hitch free process. Best practices are put in place to ensure that beneficiaries get their ration without undue stress. The Humane treatment of beneficiaries by CCDRN team has been commended by both beneficiaries and community stakeholders monitoring the process.

Another beneficiary from Mandunari who simply identified herself as Hadiza, says of her experience, “I don’t have enough words to express my appreciation, I thank you all especially WFP”. Adding that, “This new organization (CCDRN), you have done so well by giving these items without any problem. We thank you all and may GOD exalt your organization above your expectation”.
Violent attacks by non-state armed group, Boko Haram, since 2014, has shattered livelihood and amplified the food and nutrition insecurity of at risk women and children.
However, with repeated and sustained successes and gains against the insurgents by government forces, allowing access to communities, WFP’s integrated and multifaceted interventions are helping to stabilize and improve the nutrition situation, including investments in dietary diversity, and linkages with healthcare, education and improved water, sanitation and hygiene practices.
