Centre for community Development and Research Network CCDRN has organized a 3 days training for community volunteers as part of its Mother-to-mother Care Support Groups (M2MCG) initiative aimed at deepening the World Food Program nutrition intervention in Gujba and Gulani LGAs of Yobe state, Northeast Nigeria.

The training was carried out in a bid to educate and strengthen the capacity of the mother-to-mother care support group community volunteers on how to teach basic health education to targeted beneficiaries in the communities towards improving their nutrition, hygiene and health status

The training which was organized by the nutrition Unit of the organization from 11th to 13th September, 2018, covered fifteen (15) mother-to-mother care support group community volunteer participants in the eight (8) selected wards of Bara and Bularafa in Gulani Local Government Area, including Buni Lawanti, Buni Yadi, Gujba, Dadingel, and Wagir wards of Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

The training enhanced the technical skills and improved the knowledge of the mother-to-mother care support group community volunteers from the targeted wards and enhanced their ability to assist other women.

“We are thrilled by the support and concern your organization is showing towards us. There is nothing we can say apart from thank you and God bless” says Fatima Yusuf, a participant from Buni Yadi.

Equally, the group was trained on how to discuss issues of pregnancy, breastfeeding, infant and young child nutrition

“We are satisfied and grateful for this training program. We will make sure we do not only keep it to ourselves but enlighten our sisters”. Mallam Ciroma, another participant from Bularafa added

During their meeting, pregnant women and mothers with young children, as well as other people with similar interests, come together in a serene environment to exchange ideas, share experiences, give and receive information, and at the same time, offer and receive support in breastfeeding, child upbringing, and women’s health. The group is responsible for engaging group members in discussions in an interactive and participatory manner
