The Centre for Community Development and Research Network has distributed Food and Seeds aid to Beneficiaries in Gujba and Gulani on behalf of the World Food Programme and her sister agency, Food and Agricultural Organization FAO.
The food aid from WFP was given together with seeds from FAO in June of 2019 as part of a well thought out strategy for protection of seeds received from FAO, opening a vista on how scaling up cooperation among the two foremost Rome Based agencies could boost food security and lead to better outcome for affected population.
The process tagged ‘twin track’ distribution approach is an integrated food and seeds distribution method adopted to ensure that while farmers are given seeds aid for the farming season, they also have enough food to avoid the prospect of misusing the seeds meant for farming purpose.
A combined food and seed package helps feed people now and later, since people will feed their families with their upcoming harvest
“We are grateful to WFP and FAO, here we have enough food to eat and seeds to plant. I have received beans, sorghum and oil in addition to this seeds for planting. This will go a long way for us as we will have enough to feed and work on our farms at the same time” says Ladi Abu, a beneficiary who received both food and seeds aid in Gulani.
Beneficiaries were advised on the judicious use of WFP food items, FAO seeds and subsequently FAO fertilizer given to them to restore their livelihood and attain self-reliant status both in the short and long run
