Centre for Community Development and Research Network (CCDRN) has intensified monitoring and mentorship for conflict-affected families empowered through the World Food Programmes’s Income Generating Activities’ (IGAs) intervention across Gujba and Gulani Local Government Areas of Yobe state to ensure proper utilization of small business tools and Non Food Items provided for them to help support their families and transform their communities.
With support from the United Nations World Food Programme, CCDRN had empowered targeted vulnerable individuals with training and startup kits to launch various small businesses such as oil processing, grain processing, barbing saloon, food processing, leather works, tailoring, microeconomic gardening among others to help them to gradually recover and prosper by creating their small businesses, earn income and take care of their immediate food needs.
CCDRN’s Income Generating Activities’ team is reaching out to ‘the people we serve’ through continues monitoring and mentorship to ascertain the working conditions of the NFIs/startup kits provided and to also build the financial management capacity of the beneficiaries under the intervention to enable them to manage their finance and properly utilize items provided for their business takeoff.
WFP ‘s Income Generating Activities (IGAs) intervention being implemented by CCDRN across targeted communities in Yobe state consist of small businesses managed by a small group of targeted conflict-affected families who had lost their support system due to displacements and violence by Non-state Armed group, to increase their household income through livelihood diversification.
During monitoring, CCDRN takes into cognizance various complaints and feedback from the beneficiaries and provide them with handholding support to help them fix challenges and excel in their business.
Evidence from the field points to the fact that the IGAs intervention CCDRN is implementing with support from WFP is gradually helping in the recuperation and strengthening of livelihood systems and food security of targeted vulnerable families across Gujba and Gulani LGAs.
